On November 20th, 2019, Ms. Du Dewen, Chinese Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan, led a delegation to visit the Research Center for Ecology and Environment of Central Asia (Bishkek) (hereinafter referred to as the Center). Li Yaoming, Director of the Central Asia Research Office, Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography (XIEG) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Director of the Center, accompanied the investigation together with other staff from the Center.

On the early morning of 20th, Ambassador Du together with the delegation left for Dostuk on the outskirts of the capital Bishkek to investigate the Pilot Program of Drinking Water Purification built by XIEG. This program was launched in August 2018, which can provide clean drinking water up to the hygienic standards to over 3000 residents around and is widely welcomed by local residents. During the SCO Summit 2019, the People’s Daily and other domestic and foreign media reported this program with special issue. Upon detailed communication and investigation with staff from the Center and local residents, Ambassador Du pointed out that this program was a typical case about the scientific cooperation between China and Kyrgyzstan to benefit the people. She hoped that this pilot program could scale up with the cooperation of relevant departments under the government of Kyrgyzstan, so as to satisfy more demands of remote residential areas for clear drinking water. And the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Kyrgyz Republic will provide active coordination and assistance.

In the office area of the Center in downtown Bishkek, Ambassador Du visited the Test & Analysis Laboratory, Data Sharing Information Center and other departments in turn, and held a symposium with staff from the Center. During this period, Li Yaoming, Director of the Center, made a detailed report to the Ambassador and the delegation on the history, development as well as the scientific and technological achievements of the Center. Ambassador Du gave a positive evaluation of the Center’s construction. She indicated that sci-tech cooperation was an important part of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Kyrgyzstan. It is hoped that the Center will play a bigger role as a bridge and platform for sci-tech cooperation between the two countries and strengthen the bilateral relations with more cooperative results for greater benefits of the people.

Shortly afterwards, the Ambassador together with the delegation also visited the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic and met with the president Jumataev.

The Research Center for Ecology and Environment of Central Asia (Bishkek) was jointly built by the CAS and the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic in 2014. Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography of the Chinese Academy of Sciences is responsible for the specific work as the supporting institution of the Center.
