A Group of People led by Professor Wu Changshan of Wisconsin University and Professor Li Yingkui of Tennessee University Visited Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography for Academic Exchanges
On July 13th, a group of people including Wu Changshan, Professor of Wisconsin University and President of Remote Sensing Specialty Group (RSSG) of the Association of American Geographers (AAG), Li Yingkui, Professor of Tennessee University, Li Yanan, Assistant Professor of Texas State University, Zhang Xin and Wang Lei, Professors of Aerospace Information Research Institute of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chen Yan, Associate Professor of Environment College of Donghua University visited Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography and conducted academic exchanges at the Research Center for Ecology and Environment of Central Asia (RCEECA).
Chen Xi, Director of RCEECA and Professor of Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography, delivered the welcoming speech and held the conference. Liu Wenjiang, Deputy Managing Director of RCEECA and Professor of Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography, systematically introduced the research center’s research work and scientific research progress in Central Asia region in recent years from the perspectives of basic information, platform building, scientific research achievement, talents training, international cooperation projects and domestic and international influence. Professor Liu Tie gave a report titled “The Coordinated Management and Research of Water and Ecology of Central Asia’s Great Lake Area”, Senior Engineer Chang Cun delivered a report named “Temporal and Spatial Changes of Tajikistan and Ecological Risks Evaluation” and Wu Changshan gave a report called “Urban Land Utilization and Classification Based on High-resolution Remote Sensing Image”. Besides, Professor Li Yingkui made a report titled “Impact of Climate Change on Water Resources in High Asia”, Assistant Professor Li Yanan gave a report called “Glacial History and Changes During the Little Ice Age and Recent Decades in Tianshan, China” and Chen Yan gave a report named “Temporal and Spatial Changes and Regulation of Yangtze River’s Ecological Environment Based on Geo-info Spectrum”. At last, Wang Lei also gave a report called “Development and Application of Dynamic Monitoring Satellites in Low-latitude Regions”. After the report, attendees conducted thorough exchanges and discussion concerning Lop Nor, Aral Sea, glaciers in Central Asia and lakes.
The visitors spoke highly of RCEECA’s information platform building and scientific and technological results achieved. They hope that, by combining bilateral advantages, they can conduct deep communication in project cooperation, personnel exchanges and students training surrounding Central Asia’s lakes, water resources, Aral Sea and Issyk Kul Lake to jointly promote scientific and technological development of Central Asian countries.
Before the meeting, a group of people led by Professor Wu Changshan visited Xinjiang Fukang National Field Scientific Observation and Research Station for Desert Ecosystems and RCEECA Information Center.
