Success hosting of the session of “Climate Change and Disaster Prevention Technology in Eurasia Arid Zone”

On May 11th and 12th, the International Conference on Silk-roads Disaster Risk Reduction and Sustainable Development (SiDRR Conference 2019) was held in Beijing. The conference was jointly hosted by Chinese Academy of Sciences, China Association for Science and Technology, United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) and Alliance of International Science Organizations in the Belt and Road Region, organized by Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and co-hosted by Research Center for Ecology and Environment of Central Asia (RCEECA). Featuring the theme of “Join Hands to Build a Safe, Green and Sustainable Silk Road”, the conference has 1 main venue and 24 sessions, attended by over 780 experts and scholars from more than 40 countries and regions around the world.

The session of “Climate Change and Disaster Prevention Technology in Eurasia Arid Zone”, hosted by RCEECA, was attended by over 60 experts, scholars and foreign students from China, Belgium, Germany, Pakistan, Mongolia, Rwanda, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.

At the opening ceremony of the session, Chen Xi, Vice President of Xinjiang Branch, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Director of RCEECA, Zhang Yuanming, Deputy Director of Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Saidov, Vice President of Tajikistan Academy of Sciences, Philip, Director of Geography Department of Ghent University in Belgium and Wang Sujuan, Project Officer of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in China, respectively delivered speech and expressed their congratulations. 20 representatives delivered academic reports, covering drought, flood, snow disaster, soil salinization, biodiversity, land utilization, green development of urban areas, and disaster monitoring and early warning. On behalf of those attended the meeting, President Dzhumataev of the Kyrgyzstan Academy of Sciences expressed gratitude for the success of the meeting.
