Successful convening of China-Tajikistan Bilateral Scientific and Technological Cooperation Symposium

Between April 22nd and 24th, 2019, China-Tajikistan Bilateral Scientific and Technological Cooperation Symposium organized by Research Center for Ecology and Environment of Central Asia (RCEECA) Dushanbe Branch was held successfully in Tajikistan’s capital, Dushanbe. Chen Fahu, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Director of Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research and Secretary General of Alliance of International Science Organizations (ANSO), Chen Xi, Vice President of Xinjiang Branch and Director of RCEECA, President Rahimi and Vice President Saidov of Tajikistan Academy of Sciences (TAS), all attended the meeting. Over 40 people from Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research, RCEECA, Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography, Lanzhou University, Zhejiang Normal University, TAS Institute of History, Institute of Geology, Institute of Water Problems, Institute of Botany, Institute of Animals, Glacier Research Center and Innovative Center for Biomedicine attended the meeting.

At the opening ceremony, Vice President Saidov of Tajikistan Academy of Sciences looked back on the development of Tajikistan’s scientific and technological cooperation with China and the construction of RCEECA Dushanbe Branch, and thanked China for help and support. Vice President Chen Xi, while introducing the bilateral cooperation progress, also thanked Tajikistan Academy of Sciences and Dushanbe Branch for their devotion to the meeting. Director Chen Fahu, based on the introduction of previous cooperation between Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research and Tajikistan Academy of Sciences Institute of Geology, major research orientation of Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research and current major projects, expressed the willingness to reach a consensus through this meeting and strengthen mutual cooperation. Subsequently, Tajikistan Academy of Sciences, RCEECA, TAS Institute of Geology, Seismic Engineering and Geomagnetism, CAS Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research and ANSO introduced their organizational structure.

Experts conducted academic exchanges surrounding the topics like human evolution, archaeology, history, glacier changes, palaeoenvironment and loess deposit and they also discussed about bilateral scientific and technological cooperation in the fields of the composition and evolution of Pamir, climate, glacier, water resources, environment changes, human adaption, environment archaeology and alpine ecology.

During the meeting, a group of people led by Academician Chen Fahu held talks with President Rahimi on the work of ANSO. They also visited Dushanbe Branch and TAS Institute of Geology, Seismic Engineering and Geomagnetism. After the meeting, they investigated Nurek Hydroelectric Station and visited Geophysical Service Bureau of Tajikistan, TAS Institute of History and Innovative Center for Biomedicine.
