Between March 20^th and 22^nd, a group of 3 people, including Academician TOJIBAYEV KOMIL, Director of Botany Institute of Uzbekistan Academy of Sciences and Academician AIMBETOV NAGMET, President of Nukus Branch of Uzbekistan Academy of Sciences visited Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography and Research Center for Ecology and Environment of Central Asia (RCEECA).

Zhang Yuanming, Deputy Director of Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography (presiding over work), met the delegation and exchanged views on scientific and technological cooperation by both parties on relevant fields. Professor Dong Yunshe, Party Secretary of Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography welcomed the visit by the group led by Academician TOJIBAYEV KOMIL and briefly introduced the institute’s scientific research achievements, students training and international cooperation with Central Asia countries. Professor Liu Wenjiang, Deputy Managing Director of RCEECA, systematically introduced the research center’s research work and scientific research progress in ecological environment monitoring and water resources management in recently years from the perspectives of basic information, platform building, scientific research achievement and domestic and international influence, and also expressed the wish that both sides can further strengthen cooperation in Aral Sea treatment, informationization of the specimens of desert vegetation and desertification combating.

Feng Ying, Associate Professor of Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography, according to both sides’ cooperative needs, introduced the institute’s research in specimen collection and informationization. AIMBETOV NAGMET introduced the organizational structure of Nukus Branch, dynamic changes of Aral Sea throughout the history and water utilization in detail.

TOJIBAYEV KOMIL thanked Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography’s consistent support and assistance to the Botany Institute of Uzbekistan Academy of Sciences and looked forward to conduct cooperation in field station construction and Aral Sea treatment with RCEECA. Besides, both sides have signed cooperation agreement on the field station construction for Aral Sea’s desert ecosystem and the construction is planned to be completed at the beginning of April. 

During the visit, the delegation also visited the Information Center of RCEEECA, the Literature Center and Specimen Museum of Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography, and also investigated Turpan Desert Botanical Garden of Chinese Academy of Sciences.
