RCEECA convenes the annual work arrangement meeting

The whole years’ work depends on a good start in spring. On January 21st, Research Center for Ecology and Environment of Central Asia (RCEECA) convened a plenary meeting to discuss and arrange for the work of 2019. The meeting was hosted by Chen Xi, Vice President of Xinjiang Branch and Director of RCEECA.

In the speech, Director Chen Xi summarized the highlights of 2018. First, the center successfully passed the performance evaluation of 2013-2017 for foreign agencies organized by Chinese Academy of Sciences and prized as excellent, which was an recognition of the center’s work. This was due to the successful construction of basic scientific research platform featuring the integration of field monitoring research station, indoors analysis and test lab, demonstration zone for technical test and data information center and the publication of over 30 books and 300 SCI papers allowed the center to rank the first globally in terms of English literature quantity and quotes times in Central Asia’s ecological environment fields. Besides, 2 first prizes for Xinjiang’s Scientific and Technological Progress, National “Friendship Prize” for foreign experts, Xinjiang’s “Tianshan Mountain Prize” and foreign academician’s honors all significantly improved the center’s influence. Second, Central Asia area was involved into the research of pan third pole environment pilot project, which would create new opportunities for the center to show its power and bring the platform into play. Third, the ascending of the center’s management level, featuring a series of upcoming rules and regulations involving the management and operation of the center, would lay solid foundation for future systems, scientific and standard management and better, faster and stronger development.

In the work arrangement of 2019, Director Chen Xi pointed out that we should realize the center’s current talents could not sustain or support future development so talents should be taken as the top priority. We should attract and gather more talents to the center by setting up various and flexible talents projects, strengthen the import of talents from “Hundred-Talent Program” or “Recruitment Program of Global Expert” and create conditions to offer training to the young people. Then, strictly implement the upcoming rules and regulations to regulate the center’s management and strengthen the gathering and sharing of daily work’s data, pictures and results. Besides, in terms of the center’s work thinking, the transformation from platform construction to the academic level and result-oriented outcomes should be realized and major outcomes and rewards application should be actively planned. Finally, better implement the management of overseas branches. Bring the center’s functions of communication, coordination and services as an institute-level platform to play and guarantee the successful implementation and task fulfillment of pan third pole environment pilot projects.

At last, Director of the Branch and business leaders of information center, field station and lab respectively reported their annual work, discussed the existing problems and questions, and processed official businesses on site.
