Chen Xi was elected as Foreign Honorary Member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan
On October 30th, 2020, ZHURINOV, President of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan presided over a cooptation meeting of the Member Election Committee, on which Chen Xi was elected as Foreign Honorary Member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan. In China, Chen Xi served as Secretary of Xinjiang Branch of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Director of the Research Center for Ecology and Environment of Central Asia (hereinafter referred to as the RCEECA).
Professor Chen Xi has devoted himself to the study in the fields of remote sensing and geographic information system, hydrology and water resources, and has made remarkable contributions in the fields of basin simulation in arid areas, remote sensing and GIS application, massive database construction, ecological environment management and spatial hydrology. Since the RCEECA was founded, he actively promoted down-to-earth cooperation between China and Kazakhstan in science and technology cooperation and talent cultivation, especially in the demonstration and promotion of saline-alkali land improvement technology, application test of degradable mulching film and analysis and application of agricultural big data, which provided important scientific basis for optimal management of water resources, ecological environment protection and regional sustainable development in Central Asia. Being elected as Foreign Honorary Member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan is a high appreciation of his distinct achievement in research field of ecology and environment in arid area of Central Asia and remarkable contributions in promoting science and technology cooperation between China and Kazakhstan.
Sixteen members of the Election Committee attended the video conference, on which they discussed and approved the nomination of Foreign Honorary Member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, forming the Resolution No. 9 of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan in 2020. At the same time, they also elected six other foreign scientists as Foreign Honorary Member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
