A group led by Liang Ziqian, Deputy Director of Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation Institute, visits the RCEECA

On the morning of June 28th, a group of 4 led by Liang Ziqian, Deputy Director One of the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation Institute (hereinafter referred to as “CAREC Institute”) visited the Research Center for Ecology and Environment of Central Asia, Chinese Academy of Science (hereinafter referred to as “RCEECA”) for a symposium on the topic of interagency cooperation and exchanges.

Chen Xi, Director of RCEECA, pointed out that RCEECA has established a solid foundation for cooperation with Central Asian countries, and has developed extensive cooperation in the fields of natural resources exploitation, ecological environmental protection, disaster prevention and control, and climate change. The cooperation aims to devote great energy to tackling the major challenges in science and technology faced by the Belt and Road countries and regions, thus serving the green development on the Belt and Road. He expressed the wish that RCEECA can cooperate with CAREC Institute at a deeper level, constantly improve the regional cooperative mechanism, further expand the regional cooperative fields, and work together to write a new chapter in the cooperation and development between the two sides. At the symposium, Liu Wenjiang, Executive Deputy Director of RCEECA, introduced the operation work and scientific research progress of RCEECA in recent years in a systematic way.

Besides a brief introduction to the administrative system and operation mechanism of CAREC Institute, Deputy Director Liang Ziqian also spoke highly of the achievements gained by the RCEECA. He expected that this visit can create more opportunities for boarder and deeper cooperation, thus enhancing the integrated development of ecological environment and social economy, and promoting the cooperation and communication within the region and among the countries along the Belt and Road in the aspects of major studies, technology export, popularization and application. In this way, the two institutions will jointly devote to accelerating the sustainable development of regional economy and ecological environment through knowledge cooperation and knowledge dissemination.

The two sides reached a consensus on jointly building a strategic cooperative partnership and will establish a long-lasting cooperative mechanism in terms of data sharing, policy exchanges, consultation and advice through joint cooperation and study relying on bilateral platforms. Furthermore, the both sides will promote the demonstration of proven technologies and the promotion of their application together, jointly organize academic seminars and training sessions for strengthening the training of professionals, thus making concerted efforts to provide technical support for improving the ecological environment of Central Asia region and boosting the economic development.

Before the symposium, the group led by Deputy Director Liang Ziqian paid a visit to the Xinjiang Regional Center of Resources and Environmental Science Instrument, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Data Center of RCEECA. Personnel in charge of the RCEECA Branch, Laboratory, Information Center, and Field Observation and Research Station also participated in the above activities.

The establishment of CAREC Institute originated from the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation Program of the Asian Development Bank, and it started its physical operation in Urumqi since 2013. CAREC Institute, as a regional intergovernmental organization, currently has 11 member countries, including Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, the People’s Republic of China, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. CAREC Institute is committed to acting as a leading think tank for the economic cooperation in Central Asia region as well as a booster for the Belt and Road Initiative through knowledge cooperation and sharing in 5 major fields: economic and fiscal stability; infrastructure and economic connectivity; trade, travel and economic corridor; agriculture and water resources; human development.
