Visit Kathmandu Center for Research and Education for cooperation discussions and exchanges

Between December 25th and 30th, an international academic seminar with the theme of “Cross-border Landscape Regional Research Plan: Planning for 2020 and Future Prospects” organized by International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) was held at Chitwan National Park in Nepal, attracting more than 60 attendees from Nepal, China, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bhutan, Myanmar, India and Tajikistan. Liu Wenjiang, Executive Deputy Director of Research Center for Ecology and Environment of Central Asia (RCEECA), was invited to attend the seminar.

Before the seminar, Liu Wenjiang visited the Kathmandu Center for Research and Education, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), located in the Tribhuvan University (TU) of Kathmandu, capital of Nepal. Accompanied by Researcher Zhao Ping and Dr. Liu Xiaobo of the Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research, CAS, Liu Wenjiang visited the offices, meeting rooms, academic report halls, laboratories, distribution rooms, photovoltaic systems, expert apartments and other living facilities in the newly built office building for scientific research. Both sides conducted extensive exchanges and discussions on the construction and development, operation and management, opportunities and challenges of the overseas center. Moreover, both sides are willing to further deepen work exchanges and scientific research cooperation, actively explore the systematic, standardized and scientific construction of overseas agency, so as to better serve the scientific cooperation and talent cultivation under the Belt and Road Initiative.

On the basis of hearing the project background and the progress over the past decade of the “Cross-border Landscape Research Plan”, the representatives discussed the project’s work plan for next year and its future development plan, and focused on an intensive discussion of the Hindu Kush Karakoram Pamir Landscape (HKPL) Initiative. Furthermore, they also conducted exchanges on the participation of RCEECA in the activities of the project in Tajikistan.
