“The International Training Class for Ecological Environment Monitoring and Scientific Practice of Central and Western Asia” Opens

On November 15th, “the International Training Class for Ecological Environment Monitoring and Scientific Practice of Central and Western Asia”, sponsored by the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Science and Technology and organized by Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and Research Center for Ecology and Environment of Central Asia (RCEECA) opens. This training session will last for 2 weeks. Nearly 40 technicians and management personnel from Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Iran and Mongolia will attend this online training.

Researcher Chen Xi, Director of RCEECA, said in his speech that the training class will share China’s long-term knowledge and experience in ecology and environmental monitoring by building a platform for academic exchanges and results sharing. This will further improve the skills of those involved in ecological system monitoring and research in Central and Western Asia and lay solid foundation for research work in relevant fields. RCEECA highly values the importance of outdoor monitoring and hopes that participants could fully use the established research platform and work together to attract and gather more research power and international resources; conduct practical cooperation and make efforts to solve regional ecological, environmental and people’s livelihood problems.

Researcher Zhang Yuanming, Director of Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography, said in his speech that Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography has always highly valued the scientific cooperation with Central Asia countries in ecological environment, disaster prevention and relieve, and water resources management. And he hopes that this training could further strengthen cooperation and exchanges between different countries, promote “going out” of China’s ecological monitoring technology and improve ecological and environmental monitoring capabilities along the “Belt and Road” to offer scientific support for regional sustainable development.

20 experts with rich ecological environment monitoring experience from research institutions such as UNEP, UNCCD, Beijing Normal University, Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology, Jiangsu Normal University and CAS are invited to this training. And specific training on the application of UAVs and satellite in ecological environment monitoring, monitoring content and method of sand, desertification, snow accumulation, lakes, rivers and grasslands etc., long-term ecological monitoring and evaluation, data management and sharing is conducted.
