The Asia-Europe International Academic Conference on Diversity and Protection of Amphibians and Reptiles is held in Chengdu

The Asia-Europe International Academic Conference on Diversity and Protection of Amphibians and Reptiles, co-organized by Research Center for Ecology and Environment of Central Asia (RCEECA), was held in Chengdu from November 2 to 5, 2021. This conference was held by Amphibian and Reptile Branch of Chinese Zoological Society, Russian Society of Amphibians and Reptiles, Asian Society of Herpetology Research and organized by Chengdu Institute of Biology of Chinese Academy of Sciences, etc. More than 200 participants from China, Russia, the United States, Canada, France, Germany, Sweden, Ukraine, Tajikistan, Japan, India, Malaysia, Pakistan, Nepal, Hong Kong and Taiwan region attended the conference online and offline.

At the opening ceremony, Wei Fuwen, an academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Wu Ning, Director of Chengdu Institute of Biology, congratulated on the successful convening of the conference. Director of RCEECA Dushanbe Sub-centre and A. Saidov, Deputy President of Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan, on the basis of introducing the distribution and protection status of amphibians and reptiles in Tajikistan, emphasized the importance of amphibians and reptiles and biodiversity protection under the influence of climate change and human activities, and hoped that the Conference could strengthen the cooperation and exchange between China and Tajikistan in related fields.

The Conference, in the form of conference reports, group reports and achievement exhibition boards, around fauna and classification, genetic evolution and physiological ecology, zoogeography and animal behavior, rare and endangered species and habitat protection, artificial breeding and application, life history strategy and environmental adaptation, fossils and paleoenvironment reconstruction, science popularization and international cooperation, and other issues, conducted extensive academic exchanges on the surveys, protection theories and methods of amphibian and reptile diversity. During this period, Director A. Saidov gave an academic report on “Population Assessment of Central Asian Tortoises in Main Distribution Areas of Tajikistan”.

The Amphibian and Reptile Branch of Chinese Zoological Society 2021 Academic Seminar was held at the same time.
