On October 11, 2021, the 7th China Scientific Data Conference hosted by China National Committee, Committee on Data (CODATA) of International Council for Science (ICSU) was held in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia, the theme of the conference was "Scientific Data and Field Scientific Observation & Research Station", academicians Chen Yiyu, Zhang Minggao, Sun Jiulin, Yu Guirui and more than 500 delegates attended the conference.

At the opening ceremony of the conference, Liu Wenjiang, Executive Deputy Director of Research Center for Ecology and Environment of Central Asia (RCEECA), and He Honglin, Director of National Ecological Science Data Center, signed the Strategic Cooperation Agreement on behalf of bilateral institutions to jointly build the "Central Asia Branch Center of  National Ecological Science Data Center".

Central Asia Branch Center of National Ecological Science Data Center will be built relying on the mature scientific and technological cooperation platform and long-term scientific data accumulation of RCEECA, the Parties will carry out all-round cooperation in three aspects: data collection and sharing, data mining and application, and scientific research cooperation and exchange, aiming at strengthening the management, sharing, development and utilization of ecological science data, in order to better serve scientific research in ecology and related fields and the cooperation needs of the country's “the Belt and Road” Initiative.

National Ecological Science Data Center (NESDC) belongs to national science and technology resource sharing service platform, was established in June 2019 with the approval of the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Finance, with the purpose of expanding departmental stations and special observation networks based on the National Station of China Ecosystem Research Network (CNERN) and centered on ecosystem observation and research data, integrating station -region-national ecosystem observation and research data products, building a national scientific data center with advanced level at home and abroad, and supporting national ecological civilization construction and ecosystem disciplinary development .

Founded in May 2013, RCEECA is one of the first overseas science and education institutions under the "Science and Education Cooperation Expansion Project for Developing Countries" of Chinese Academy of Sciences, its main task is to carry out mutually beneficial cooperation and personnel training in the fields of ecosystem, water resources, geology, climate change, environmental pollution, sustainable development and agricultural technology with countries in Central Asia and along the line of “the Belt and Road, based on the construction of the Green Silk Road. At present, 15 Ecosystem Field Observation and Research Stations have been established in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, and have integrated multi-scale, multi-dimensional and multi-source heterogeneous data such as meteorology, hydrology, soil, land utilization, geology, topography, plants, animals and social economy, the Central Asian Resources and Ecological Environment Database with the largest amount of data and the most abundant data types in the world has been established, with a total amount of data exceeding 40TB.

At the conference, the Contract for establishing five branch centers of National Ecological Science Data Center were also signed, including Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Dawan District scientific data, material corrosion and protection scientific data, basic discipline public scientific data, transportation scientific data and field observation scientific data of Lanzhou University.
