On September 15, invited by the Research Center for Ecology and Environment of Central Asia of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (hereinafter referred to as RCEECA), Researcher Luo Yi of the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences came to the Institute for academic exchange and made an academic report entitled as "Vegetation Succession and Development Pattern and Climatic and Hydrological Driving Mechanisms in the Shrinking Aral Sea". The report was hosted by Liu Wenjiang, Executive Deputy Director of RCEECA, and more than 30 young researchers and postgraduates of Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography listened to the report.

Starting with the change of water level in the Aral Sea in recent 60 years, Researcher Luo Yi reported relevant research progress on the change features of NDVI index in the dry lake basin of the Aral Sea since 1986, the relationship between groundwater level and vegetation change, and the climatic and hydrological driving mechanism of temporal and spatial variation of vegetation in the North Aral Sea and the South Aral Sea, and made a expectation for the future research direction of the climate - vegetation -soil - water system of the Aral Sea. Finally, Researcher Luo Yi also exchanged with the participants on the research focus and relevant driving mechanism of the Aral Sea shrinking zone.

Researcher Luo Yi is mainly engaged in the research on agricultural hydrology, forest hydrology, hydrology in cold highland area, theory and methods of interaction between ecosystem and hydrological system, he has been engaged in the development of ecological hydrological models with independent intellectual property rights and applied to the research of watershed and regional hydrology for a long term. At present, he is mainly studying the hydrological process and its response mechanism to climate change in Tianshan Mountain - Pamir - Karakoram Mountain - Kunlun Mountain areas.
