According to the specific requirements and related arrangement for 2022 deployment project review of the Overseas Center for Science and Education Cooperation (hereinafter referred to as OCSEC), the Research Center for Ecology and Environment of Central Asia of CAS (hereinafter referred to as RCEECA) organized and held the project defense pre-review exchange meeting on September 9, 2021 to optimize and improve the content and quality of the project declaration materials.

Prof. Luo Yi from Institute of Geography of CAS, Prof. Xue Bin from Nanjing Institute of Geography & Limnology of CAS, Prof. Tu Rui from National Time Service Center of CAS, and Prof. Li Lanhai from Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography of CAS were invited as the guiding experts, and the meeting was chaired by Liu Wenjiang (Deputy Managing Director of RCEECA).

The project undertakers reported on the background and significance, conditions and basis, objectives and contents, and budget respectively, while the guiding experts, according to their long-term international cooperation experience and their understandings in the approval of 2021 OCSEC deployment projects, raised specific modification comments and advices on the details of project declaration materials, and the participants also had extensive and deep exchanges and discussions around the project content.

The OCSEC deployment projects are the specific efforts by OCSEC of CAS in optimizing management plan, and they focuses on the major livelihood issues in the countries and regions where the OCSEC is located, the common challenges in the regions where the OCSEC is located, and the scientific issues of great value to the scientific & technological innovation of CAS. Meanwhile, the OCSEC will plan and implement such cooperation: of which, it has the urgent needs from foreign parties, the cooperation team, the clear input, the significant social & economic benefits, the significant support for bilateral diplomatic relations, and the significant improvement of scientific influence of CAS (especially for OCSEC). Each year, the OCSEC is responsible for the organization, selection and recommendation of the deployment projects, and the Bureau of International Cooperation of CAS will organize experts to review and then initiate the preferred projects.

Two projects recommended by the RCEECA in 2021 were funded.
