Beidou Dam Deformation Monitoring System Has Been Successfully Tested

发布时间2021-06-17

Recently, the Beidou Dam Deformation Monitoring System, jointly developed by the CAS National Time Service Center and the CAS Research Center for Ecology and Environment of Central Asia (hereinafter referred to as RCEECA), has successfully passed a series of tests.

Specially designed for the Usoi Dam in Lake Sarez, Tajikistan, this system is composed of three modules: Beidou satellite receiving module, VSAT satellite network communication module and solar photovoltaic power supply module. This system can monitor the millimeter-level displacement of dam in a real-time manner, and then transmit the monitoring data via communication satellite in real time, so as to realize the real-time deformation monitoring of dam. In April 2021, after the completion of indoor operation test for this monitoring system, a comprehensive and systematic test in real field environment was conducted in Xinjiang to verify the reliability of the whole system's long-term and stable operation in the field.

In order to ensure the realization of system test objectives and the requirements of long-term unwatched stable operation, the R&D Team designed a detailed test plan and fault simulation pre-plan, based on which, the civil foundation piles, the Beidou observation stations, the VSAT satellite network communication system and the solar photovoltaic power supply system were built in the field. During the test in the field, long-time power failure, communication link loss and automatic recovery, automatic restarting of various equipment, remote monitoring of power supply system & equipment status and deformation displacement data real-time transmission were simulated, and more than 10 improvements on hardware and software of the system were conducted after analyzing the reasons of fault, as a result, the test objectives were completed after the operation in the field over one month.

Organized and recommended by the RCEECA, and initiated and undertaken by the National Time Service Center, the "Lake Sarez Dam Deformation Monitoring Based on Beidou Technology" Project was launched on March 17, 2021. The China's Beidou high-precision positioning and communication technology were applied in this Project to monitor the deformation of the Lake Sarez Dam in Tajikistan in order to provide important scientific reference for the dam safety. Moreover, the successful R&D of the Beidou Dam Deformation Monitoring System will ensure the smooth implementation of this Project, the deployment of monitoring system and the completion of contract tasks on schedule.
