On May 12^th, Xue Bin—Professor of Nanjing Institute of Geography & Limnology Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Deputy Managing Director of State Key Laboratory for Lake Science and Environment and Head of the Research Station for Wild Observation of Lakes and Wetlands of Hulun Lake State Forestry Administration, came to Research Center for Ecology and Environment of Central Asia (RCEECA) to conduct academic exchanges and deliver a report titled “Research on Climate Change and Ecological System of Lakes—Review and Prospect.” The conference was held by Liu Wenjiang, Deputy Managing Director of RCEECA.

Professor Xue Bin started with the analysis on the importance of ecological system of lakes and ecological and environmental problems faced by them. Then he delivered his report on 3 aspects, which were climate change and ecological system of lakes, research examples of China and prospects. Concerning the influence of climate change to water volume and quality of lakes in arid area and ecology, he introduced the work of “Research on the changes of lakes in Northern China since 1950s and Ecological Effect”, a special program on global changes. At last, Professor Xue Bin also exchanged ideas with participants on the key points of lakes research in arid area of Xinjiang and suggestions on lakes research in Central Asia.

Professor Xue Bin has engaged in long-term research on environmental changes of lakes and treatment strategies and had presided in 2 projects of 973 Program (Major State Basic Research Development Program of China), 1 special project of basic work and 8 projects of National Natural Science Foundation of China; published 12 books, over 60 SCI thesis; won many prizes including second prize of National Natural Science, first prize for Environmental Science and Technology, first prize for Scientific and Technological Achievement of Heilongjiang Province, special prize of President Scholarship of CAS, prize for National Outstanding Popular Science of the Ministry of Science and Technology and silver prize of China Science Writers Association.
