Research Center of Central Asia Attended Preparatory Meeting of World Geographical Congress

On April 17, the preparatory meeting of the 1st World Geographical Congress was held in the East China Normal University. The meeting was chaired by Qin Dahe, an academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, the president of Geographical Society of Asia, and the director of World Geography and Geopolitical Strategy Research Center of East China Normal University, and nearly 50 representatives from the Geographical Society of China and relate professional committees as well as relevant domestic research institutes attended this meeting via video or presence.

At the meeting, first, Academician Qin Dahe introduced the background and significance of holding the World Geographical Congress. Second, Academician Chen Fahu, the president of the Geographical Society of China, congratulated the successful opening of the preparatory meeting, and elaborated and communicated on the importance and urgency of holding the meeting as well as the specific preparatory work of the meeting through video. Third, Professor Du Debin, the director of the World Geography Professional Committee of Geographical Society of China and the dean of the School of Urban and Regional Science of East China Normal University, reported the preparation and organization of the World Geographic Congress, and the attending experts exchanged and discussed on the significance and function of the meeting, the meeting theme, the time and venue, the branch venue arrangement, the fund raising and other specific issues.

Chen Xi, the secretary of the CPC Leading Group of Xinjiang Branch of Chinese Academy of Sciences and the director of the Research Center for Ecology and Environment of Central Asia (hereinafter referred to as the Center) addressed his ideas and advises on the basis of discussion topics of the preparatory meeting, and introduced the preparatory plan and progress of the Central Asia branch venue. He said the Center would spare no effort to hold the Central Asia branch venue of the 1st World Geographic Congress, and he also hoped that more domestic experts could enter the Central Asia and West Asia to carry out scientific research and exchange & cooperation in the field of world geography via the scientific platform of the Center.

On the same day, a seminar was held to initiate the World Geography and Regional Geography Series. Liu Wenjiang, the executive deputy director of the Center attended the above activities.
