Success of Satellite Communication Link Test for Field Ecological System Observation and Research Station

发布时间2021-03-15

The CAS Research Center for Ecology and Environment of Central Asia (hereinafter called Center), since its foundation in 2013, has been always taking the construction of the Field Ecological System Observation and Research Station (hereinafter called Field Station) as an important part of the International Scientific and Technological Cooperation and Communication Platform. At present, there are 19 Field Stations built in the four countries of Central Asia (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan), Mongolia and Iran, which have now become an important support for the comprehensive study on ecology and environment carried out between the Center and the related countries and regions. However, due to the fact that all the Field Stations are far from cities, leading to weak support capacities in transportation, network, etc., the stable running of the Field Stations in long-term observation as well as the maintenance of the equipment and the discovery of equipment faults are severely affected. In order to solve this problem, the Center, in cooperation with the Wireless Transmission Bureau of China Telecom Group Xinjiang Telecom Company, successfully realized the remote monitoring of the experimental station in the experiment after several times of technical test on Mar. 11, 2021.

In the experiment, various tests, including condition monitoring, data transmission and remote maintenance, were taken with the technologies of data link and Internet of Things of the APSTAR-7 Satellite. In the test, communication technicians quickly set up a portable butterfly antenna on the spot and debugged the satellite data receiver, and technicians of the Center successfully received the operating state of the vorticity observation system for experimental use. The entire experiment lasted for three hours, during which the network ran stably, meeting the demand of remote maintenance of the Field Stations. For the next step, pilot scheme for the satellite-based data link for the overseas field stations will be developed and designed, and then one or two overseas field stations will be chosen for field test so as to realize the popularization and application of the technology and ensure the stable running of the overseas field station network.
