International Symposium of Scientific Practice on Geography, Geology, Ecology and Environment of Central Asia

On April 15th, International Symposium of Scientific Practice on Geography, Geology, Ecology and Environment of Central Asia, co-hosted by Bishkek Branch of the Research Center for Ecology and Environment of Central Asia (RCEECA) and Institute of Geology, Academy of Sciences of Kyrgyzstan, was held in Bishkek, capital of Kyrgyzstan. Over 60 experts and scholars from China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan etc. attended this symposium.

This meeting aims to provide a platform of academic exchanges for young researchers engaged in ecological system monitoring and research, share new technologies and methods for long-term monitoring, modeling and research of different ecological systems, and strength demonstration and service functions. In this way, it can lay the foundation for joint ecological system monitoring, management and research in arid area of Central Asia.

At the opening ceremony, representatives including Secretary of State of Kyrgyzstan Suyunbek Kasmambetov, Party Secretary of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) Xinjiang Branch, Director of RCEECA Chen Xi, President of the Academy of Sciences of Kyrgyzstan Dzhumataev Murat and Vice President of the Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan Saidov Abdusattor, Director of the Chinese side of Bishkek Branch Li Yaoming and Academicians of Kyrgyzstan delivered speeches. Representatives gave reports on ecological monitoring of different ecological systems such as forests, mountains and lakes, exploitation of mineral resources, disater warning and management, modeling of ecological system, water quality monitoring, glacier monitoring and change prediction. They also conducted in-depth exchanges and studies from macroscientific problems to specific environment factors monitoring as well as from field monitoring to data processing and mangement methods. The aim was to fully improve field scientific monitoring capabilities.

Before the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Baysalov Edil and Secretary of State Kasmambetov Suyunbek unveiled the plaque for Mineral Laboratory of the Institute of Geology of Kyrgyzstan, which was named after Professor Sakiev Kadyrbek to pay tribute and highest respect to him.

Sakiev Kadyrbek was the Head of the Institute of Geology of the Academy of Sciences of Kyrgyzstan and joint Director of Kyrgyzstan side of Bishkek branch of RCEECA. He died on April 17th, 2020. Before that, he actively pushed for cooperation and research between China and Kyrgyzstan in ecological environment, exploitation of mineral resources and water use and made significant contriution to the scientific cooperation and exchanges between 2 countries.
