On April 7, 2022, the CAS Research Center for Ecology and Environment of Central Asia (hereinafter referred to as RCEECA) organized and held the summary and deployment meeting for the "China-Tajikistan Cooperative Research Program on Water and Science". Chen Xi (Director of RCEECA), Saidov Abdusattor (Vice President of the Tajikistan Academy of Sciences) and research teams from China and Tajikistan attended the meeting, and Liu Wenjiang, the Executive Deputy Director of RCEECA, presided over the meeting.

At the meeting, the Chinese responsible persons for four projects of the Research Program reported their work since the establishment of the projects from the aspects of research objectives, scientific issues, project progress and findings/outcomes, and Saidov made a general report on behalf of the Tajikistan project team.

Director Chen Xi pointed out in his summary speech that the projects have been implemented for five years, and the phased summary was required. He suggested that the summary of existing research findings should be enhanced, and an evaluation report should be formed on this basis, which will be submitted to applicable departments of the Tajikistan government for scientific decision-making and beneficial to the implementation of the projects in the subsequent stage. In addition, he also arranged the specific work of the project summary.

The "China-Tajikistan Cooperative Research Program on Water and Science" was jointly established by the RCEECA and the Tajikistan Academy of Sciences in September 2018, which is a concrete measure to implement the resolutions of the High-level Forum of the United Nations 10-year Plan (2018-2028) of "Action on Water and Sustainable Development" as well as the "Pan Third Pole Environmental Research Program of the Chinese Academy of Sciences". The purpose of this Research Program is to build a platform for exchanges and research between Chinese and Tajikistan scientists, form an international cooperative research team and conduct cooperative research in related fields, so as to actively respond to environmental issues in the context of climate change, and serve the regional economy and the realization of sustainable development goals. In the same year, four international cooperative projects were launched: "Joint Survey of Glaciers in Tajikistan", "Survey of Water Resources and Utilization in Tajikistan", "Biodiversity and Ecosystem Change in Tajikistan", and "Disaster Warning and UAV Application in Tajikistan".
