On 17 February 2023, during his visit to Kazakhstan, Director Chen Xi of RCEECA respectively met and held working meetings with Zhang Xiao, Ambassador of the Chinese Embassy in Kazakhstan and Jiang Wei, Consul General in Almaty.

At the Embassy in Kazakhstan, Director Chen Xi first expressed his gratitude to the Embassy for the guidance and support to the work of the RCEECA in science and technology cooperation between the two countries, and then briefly introduced the development process, platform construction, research cooperation, talent cultivation of RCEECA, as well as the annual work plan and future development plan. Ambassador Zhang Xiao welcomed Director Chen Xi, highly appreciated the work of the Sino-Kazakhstan Agricultural Big Data Center, the Capital Circle Ecological Forest Construction Demonstration Project, and stressed the significance of Sino-Kazakhstan exchanges and cooperation in the light of the results of President Xi Jinping’s visit to Kazakhstan last year and the spirit of the 20^th National Congress. Ambassador Zhang Xiao hoped that RCEECA could continue to promote scientific and technological cooperation between the two countries and continue to play its role as a platform to expand the multi-area cooperation, contributing to promoting cultural exchanges, scientific and educational cooperation and ecological protection as well as strengthening the nongovernmental foundation in growing understanding, acquaintance, proximity and good neighbourliness between the two peoples. In addition, the two sides exchanged and discussed issues of common concern.

At the Consulate General in Almaty, Consul General Jiang Wei welcomed Chen Xi and his delegation as the first Xinjiang delegation to visit Kazakhstan after the epidemic outbreak. Director Chen Xi comprehensively introduced the work and important progress of the Almaty Sub-center in ecosystem monitoring, water resource management, agricultural technology demonstration, and international student training. He hoped that the Consulate General would provide guidance and assistance in domestic and international communication and coordination, planning and consultation on major projects, and sharing and building of platforms, so as to continuously improve the influence of RCEECA. Consul General Jiang Wei said that he had learned a lot through the talks and had gained a certain understanding of the work of RCEECA and the Consulate General would closely maintain contacts with the Almaty sub-center, providing full services and supports to the work of the sub-center. In addition, the two sides also discussed specific issues such as expanding cooperation and enhancing talent-training in the fields of science and technology between China and Kazakhstan.
