On September 17, the "International Training Course on Terrestrial Ecological Monitoring Techniques and Application in Central and West Asia" co-organized by Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography CAS (hereinafter referred to as Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography), Research Center for Ecology and Environment of Central Asia (hereinafter referred to as RCEECA) and National Ecosystem Science Data Center was held in Urumqi. Qiao Jianfang (Director of the International Cooperation Department of Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography) and Researcher Li Yaoming (Director of the Silk Road Green Development Research Center of Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography, and Chinese Director of the RCEECA (Bishkek)) attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. The opening ceremony was presided over by Wang Weisheng (professor level senior engineer in chief of the Information Center of RCEECA).

Eleven ecological monitoring and observation technological personnel from six countries (Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Iran and Mongolia) participated in this 10-day training. The training was conducted in a combination of indoor teaching and field practice, and seven experts with abundant experience in the field of ecological monitoring from Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography, RCEECA and National Ecosystem Science Data Center gave lessons.

In her speech, Director Qiao Jianfang addressed that Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography has always been conducting scientific & technological exchange and cooperation with Central and West Asian countries in the fields of ecological environment monitoring, disaster prevention & reduction, water resources management and agricultural demonstration, hoping that this training could promote the sharing of ecological monitoring knowledge between China and Central & West Asia, and enhance the influence of China's ecological monitoring network, further strengthening scientific & technological cooperation and exchange between China and the countries in Central and West Asia.

In his speech, Researcher Li Yaoming addressed that the technical exchange training course was held to share knowledge and experience in ecological monitoring with scientific and technological personnel from countries in Central and West Asia, which would not only help improve the professional knowledge and skills of each participant, but also would lay a foundation for international scientific cooperation in subject fields. RCEECA attached great importance to the long-term positioning monitoring of field stations, and hoped that the participants would make full use of this training opportunities to further communicate, understand and learn, so that they could cooperate with each other and make efforts to conduct the field ecological observation smoothly, jointly making positive contributions to the ecological sustainable development of Central and West Asia.

In view of the various failures and problems encountered in the practical observation of field stations, using physical teaching aids, physical simulation and acknowledge competition and other various teaching methods, and focusing on the operation theory of field stations' ecological, meteorological, atmospheric flux and other monitoring equipment, electronic circuits, network communication transmission, data product classification & grading, monitoring data integration & processing, the field experts taught the knowledge and technology of field positioning ecological monitoring to the participants.

During the training, the trainees participated in the International Forum on Sustainable Development of Ecology and Environment in the Silk Road Economic Belt, and visited the Xinjiang Museum of Natural History as well as the National Field Scientific Observation and Research Station of Xinjiang Fukang Desert Ecology.
